The problem
Painted steel this close to the water rusts from the cut edge inward, and no coating stops it. The owners had been sold steel twice. Both times the panels looked perfect for six years and then bled at every hem and eave.
What we did
0.032 inch aluminium in a PVDF finish, roll-formed on the drive so the 34-foot runs came off the machine in one piece with no lap anywhere on the slope. Concealed clips, seams closed with a mechanical seamer, and stainless fasteners throughout because a galvanised screw in an aluminium panel is its own small battery.
The detail
Every trim piece was bent on site from the same coil as the panels. Ordering trim separately means a different coil run, and a different coil run means a colour that is close instead of identical. On a low white roof in flat coastal light, close is visible.
