Laminated asphalt shingle over a fully adhered deck. The system most First Coast houses want, installed to the rating it was tested at.
A laminated shingle is rated to 130 mph, and it earns that number only when it is fastened the way the test assembly was. That means six nails per shingle rather than four, driven flush in the common bond line, on a deck that has been re-nailed first. A crew working to the four-nail minimum is installing a different product than the one on the wrapper.
We run self-adhered underlayment over the whole deck before any shingle comes up the ladder. In a climate where the covering can come off in a named storm, the underlayment is the layer that keeps the house dry until we get back to it.
Best for: Most pitched roofs between 4:12 and 9:12.
